About

Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.

-John Muir

Many of us live in urban environments, but even for those of us who live rurally, we all take for granted the comforts of home and nearby amenities. Valuable insight can be gained when we strip ourselves of these crutches, and learn to depend on ourselves in nature for what we need most.

No matter what your situation may be, Red Tail Trails seeks to offer you the opportunity to wash your spirit clean. Packed with photos, maps, GPS data and trip reports, you’ll be equipped to embark on your own discovery. Although this site will progress as a resource, the real journey lies within you.

Why Red Tail? With a bird’s eye view, a sharp eye for detail, and a tactful approach, the Red Tail Hawk is a prime candidate to emulate for an outdoor resource. The Red Tail Hawk is prevalent all over North America, like the potential scope of this website. Often in popular movies and television, the cry of a Red Tail Hawk conjures up a sense of awe in nature, the classic “Call of the Wild.” To Native Americans, the Red Tail Hawk is a very spiritually significant totem, and projects qualities of clear sight, focus, and flow. Hence, RedTailTrails.com

David Swift is a transplant to Los Angeles from a small town called Hope, Maine. David works at the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and lends a hand at Jay Leno’s Garage. When he first moved to Los Angeles, he was impressed by all of the opportunities to hike within a 20 or 30 minute drive from gridlock. It quickly blossomed into a passion and a welcome relief from the commotion of Hollywood.

Anyone can read these reviews for free, from anywhere. Take Red Tail Trails with you, because this site is fully mobile.
